Customer ReviewsBeware !! A fender con

ok, on the whole the DVD is pretty good except for some sly marketing.

The DVD Fender presents : Getting started on Acoustic guitar is exactly the same as the Fender presents: Getting started on electric guitar. In fact the lessons on the Acoustic DVD are don on an electric guitar.

The DVD starts with, the lessons on this DVD will be taught on an electric guitar - then hey presto, the DVDs are the same from here on in.

Aside the DVD I gave the product 4 stars because the content is good. OK it lacks some theory but it gets you playing and learning. Lets be honest, thats what most people want to do, and thats why its called getting started on....

Learning some chords and scales should spark additional interest, and maybe then you can learn more on theory etc.

Good Tutorial

I have never picked up a guitar before getting this DVD. After 2 weeks, I can find some of the major chords and keep up with the first lessons. So far, I have been pleased, but with some sore finger tips.
The best dvd for beginners and for review

I originally bought this for my girlfriend who couldnt strum a single note, but always wanted to learn. She is coming along great after only a few times watching the first lesson and can already strum the first 3 chords--E,D,A. The teacher really takes his time and walks the student through the biggining classes at a nice slow pace. I have also sat down and popped it in a few times and there is some great accoustic stuff that i never bothered to learn--like some acoustic soloing lines and different bass lines while playing chords. I have watched several guitar dvds over the years and this is by far the best one that ive ever seen.

One thing Id like to clear up from a previous persons review it is true that he doesnt use an acoustic guitar for the first lessons, but it is because he is teaching things that apply to electric or acoustic. When you get the basics down he moves onto techniques specifically for acoustics and does show them on an acoustic guitar.
Great DVD

This is a great DVD if you are just getting started or know a little about playing the guitar. Keith Wyatt makes this fun and easy to understand. I got my first guitar twenty-eight years ago, but I only learned a few chords and eventually put it down to play the drums. Now Im back to the guitar trying to learn how to really play, and this DVD has helped quite a bit.

Ive read some complaints in these reviews that he is playing an electric guitar instead of an acoustic. It states right at the beginning that what hes teaching applies to the acoustic guitar as well. Also there is a whole section devoted to the acoustic guitar. Not much to complain about if you ask me.
Well worth the price!

This DVD is fantastic! Its worth the price just for the looped backing tracks for practice. I like how I can practice major, minor, power or seventh chords over the backing tracks. It makes practicing chord transitions fun---like actually playing something---instead of a grind.

The teacher is first-rate. Yes, as previously noted, hes playing an electric guitar. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO THE LESSON. He injects just enough music theory quickly and concisely while showing the viewer where to put his/her fingers. Though I already knew most of the chords, I learned some preferable finger positioning for faster transitions. Ive only done half of the lessons so far, but it has already been worth my money.

Some background might be helpful in your decision to purchase this DVD: Im a beginning player, and Ive only had my guitar for a month. I have a musical background, so I feel like Im picking it up pretty quickly. I know about 50 chords and can play quite a few songs . . . rhythm, for the most part! I feel like this DVD would have helped me from day one, but I couldnt have breezed through the first several lessons as an absolute beginner.

I hope this review helps you decide if this DVD is right for you. Happy practicing!
